Florida Young Artists Orchestra
Audition requirements
1. Solo Piece:
Each auditioning musician is expected to perform an unaccompanied
solo of his/her choice. A solo should be chosen which best demonstrates
the auditioning musician's musical and technical ability. Two
copies of the solo music should be brought for the judges.
2. Orchestral Excerpts:
The FYAO Audition material includes one lyrical and one technical
excerpt appropriate for each orchestra and may be downloaded
from our website. Auditioning musicians should perform only
the excerpts provided for the orchestra in which they wish to
be seated.
3. Scales:
Auditioning musicians are required to demonstrate their proficiency
in and knowledge of scales. Specific scale requirements for
each orchestra by section are outlined below.
4. Sight Reading:
Musicians auditioning for all orchestras except the Sinfonia
will be required to demonstrate sight reading ability. A four-measure
sight reading exercise will be presented at the audition.
